‘Urgent’ request sent to states in push for coronavirus vaccine delivery by Nov. 1

The director of the CDC has sent a letter to state governors asking them to have vaccine distribution sites ready by November 1st. This is putting stress on state health systems and is not necessarily in line with where clinical trials for the vaccine are at. Some are concerned that fast tracking this process is causing communication gaps that will create logistical challenges once distribution begins, and that the deadline is motivated by politics rather than science. Distributors are hoping for more communication and better instructions before the November 1st deadline. Some of the biggest logistical challenges that states are dealing with include the need for two doses spaced out correctly for each person, and ultracold storage conditions.
