A Monitoring Solution Without a Fee
– Pros and Cons

[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

When considering an environmental monitoring solution, it’s all about the data…its ability to be stored, retrieved, what it means and how to take action.  My first job upon graduation from University was working for a large disc drive manufacturer. During my career, I was able to observe the growth of storage as the cost of that storage dropped. It was an observation as the disc drive capacity increased, so did the amount of data stored increased. This may seem obvious, however, in many cases, the data resident on the storage systems became increasingly difficult to access. The data was there, just challenging to access. It was not uncommon to describe this as Write Only Memory.

A similar issue may exist when it comes to the storage of environmental data. Data is collected 24×7, recording the room temperature, possibly humidity, the temperature of a refrigerator or freezer. With a sample being taken every five minutes, nearly 300 data points are collected per monitor. Like an insurance policy, that data has no value until it is needed. For example, there was an excursion, how much, how long? Is the database easily accessed to provide the necessary information? When the regulatory body performs their inspection and requests you to provide the details of an excursion, random event or a date – how available is the data?

The typical no fee solution may range from a device as simple as a data logger to a solution integrated into the building control system. For the purposes of this discussion, focus in placed onto the building automation system. Often, the building automation system is designed and built to control the environment; why not just tag onto the HVAC data? That certainly seems like a cost-effective approach versus paying a fee for the monitoring solution. Yes until….

There are several points to consider:

Sample Rate – is the sample rate sufficient to capture and record transient excursions?

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-folder-open”]

Data Availability – how accessible is the data? How easy is it accessed? Is the data archived for 1 year, 3 years, if necessary greater than 7 years?

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-area-chart”]

Data Display – is the data simply in a database? Can it be formatted in ways to be more usable?

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-phone”]

Alerting – monitoring is accomplished to capture and notify in the event of an excursion. How are the alerts recorded, reported and displayed?

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-user-plus”]

NIST Traceable – now many organizations are requiring the monitor probes be traceable to a NIST standard with specific lab requirements.

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-university”]

Regulatory Compliance – data collection is not sufficient in the eyes of the regulators. The data must be secure and have protected access. Regulatory agencies each have specific reporting needs.

[/fusion_li_item][/fusion_checklist][fusion_text]

These requirements and more are just a handful of consideration when choosing a monitoring solution. PharmaWatch solution addresses these and many more:

Sample Rate – PharmaWatch utilizes complex algorithms to determine the optional sample rate. Too slow, valuable information is lost; too fast excessive data is recorded.

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-folder-open”]

Data Availability – PharmaWatch stores the data online or nearline. Data recorded three years or more ago is accessible within 10 seconds or less. Data may be archived and available longer upon request.

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-area-chart”]Data Display –PharmaWatch data presentation is available in many forms as well.

  • Data displayed as a snapshot summary view –Dashboard Summary
  • The raw data in a tabular form – Raw Data Report
  • Long-term colorized report – Day Over Day report
  • Daily summary – Day Overview
  • Long-term data trends – Sensor Trend Chart

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-phone”]

Alerting – PharmaWatch provides multiple levels of alerting via email, SMS and Voice.

  • Complete and auditable recordation of all alerts is available in summary format
  • Alert limits are configured via an auditable path
  • Alerting is accomplished for multiple conditions
    • Condition Out of Range
    • Loss of AC
    • Low Battery Condition
    • Loss of Communication
    • Neglected / Unaddressed Alert Notification

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=”fa-user-plus”]

NIST Traceable –PharmaWatch supplied monitor probes are certified to a NIST standard for installation. As required by the regulatory bodies, monitor probes are exchanged with an updated NIST traceable certificate. All NIST certificates are available on the PharmaWatch portal associated with each monitored zone. Automatic carefree notification of the client is accomplished when the NIST certification is necessary. The NIST certification process is accomplished via an ILAC / ISO certified lab.

Regulatory Compliance –Regulatory Compliance – on staff at PharmaWatch is a compliance team that is constantly monitoring regulation to ensure that the highest standards are met. The PharmaWatch solution is CFR Part 21 compliant.

[/fusion_li_item][/fusion_checklist][fusion_text]Listed above are only a handful of ways that with PharmaWatch your data is not Write Only Memory, but highly accessible in any form necessary for demonstration, use, and compliance. Free is not always better.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_2″ layout=”1_2″ spacing=”” center_content=”no” hover_type=”none” link=”” min_height=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_position=”left top” background_repeat=”no-repeat” border_size=”0″ border_color=”” border_style=”solid” border_position=”all” padding=”” dimension_margin=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=”” last=”no”][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
